New in Software Defined Compute in vSphere 6.7

Today marks the release of the next iteration of vSphere. Most changes are the improvement of existing features and that includes what is embedded together with ESXi which is vSAN . First, vCenter Appliance will support Single Sign On domain with embedded PSC with Hybrid Linked mode. During this release, support for the upgrade with older vCenter Server with External PSC will not be possible at release. External PSC setup is still supported. There is a Hybrid Linked Mode which will support on prem vCenter Server 6.7 with VMware Cloud on AWS vCenter Server 6.5. Lastly, this is also the last release support for vCenter Windows Server as mentioned in the last release . There will be a backup tool and can be scheduled to help manage vCenter recovery process. In terms of migration to vCSA, the migration tool allows asynchronize background process to reduce the amount of downtime. RIP vSphere Client for Windows (C# Client)

Today marks the announcement from VMware to end the availability in future release of vSphere Client for Windows also known as the C# Client by many.  The last version and will be vSphere Client 6.0.  Any version of vSphere alongside with support will still be released. With this, there will only be one client moving forward in the next release of vSphere (lightly announced in Aug 2016 during VMworld as usual).  As also stated there will be two edition of Web Client in next release namely: Flex and HTML5. There will be plugins from other vendors that will not work since the time to create support for HTML5 will take times, so it makes sense for those who are dependent on those plugin to utilize the Flex.  For users who are not using any Flex dependent plugin, you can fully utilize the HTML5 based web client completely and enjoy the requirement of using Flash and away from the security vulnerability that comes with it. Currently there is a Fling of the HTML5 c...

With the announcement of Horizon 6.1.1 release , there are some new features added to Horizon solution.  Of the few, one of them is Application Remoting which now support over HTML5 browser. I have that testing since Horizon 6.1 in a technical preview and was not able to show it.  With this release, it is now official so I shall go through some of the screenshot how this was done. The setup is all similar is no complicated steps just an installation of an .exe binary on top of latest View 6.1 agent and the HTML access binary on the connection server. After which you have the freedom of choice to use a Horizon Client or a HTML5 to access your desktop as well as Applications remoting.  The best part of this is there is no plugin needed for browser this not just keep the browser clean from any crashes which can be resulted as well as messing up browser performance and behaviour. Using the Horizon Client this time, there are several improvement.  Remember when I...

VMware Horizon View HTML5 Blast Desktop Access Timeout

Image
Today I encounter a problem with my Home lab.  As you know I have set up Horizon Workspace with Horizon View integration completed.  Horizon View with Feature Pack 1.  Everything was working fine I was able to access via PCoIP via the Horizon View client as well as via HTML5 via the Blast protocol. However yesterday, I did a re-installation of my Horizon View Security Server.  Today when I was trying to access my desktop via HTML5 or via Horizon Workspace through HTML it all fail. I receive timeout on connecting to the desktop.  So I tested with Horizon View Client and it works.  So I have isolate this to be Blast connection related only. Here you see on my browser I enabled Firebug to trace the connection and realize it stop there with a blank screen of the Blast. After few seconds later, I get a connection time out. I decide to recall what has changed in my environment and notice what I did yesterday.  So what connect back to my Horizo...

Please note that HTML Access is only enabled for all PC and Mac specific browsers supporting HTML5.  iPad running iOS6 or higher with Safari is also possible however if your iPad is installed with mobile Horizon View Client, the default action is to use the Horizon View Client instead unless it is not available Also HTML Access has only image projection, there is no audio.  F...
