VMware Horizon Suite
The announcement for Horizon Suite for the End User Computing (EUC) solution has been announced on 20th Feb 2013. The release binary will be available in 4th March 2013. You can read about here.
I am very excited with this launch as it consists of 3 major components out of this suite. Each with its own used cases and all combined to provide a new era of End User Computing experience. You can see an overview video below:
If you remember during the VMworld 2011, there was two Projects announced with it which was part of EUC, Project Octopus and Project Appblast.
With the announcement for Horizon Suite, you will know find there are this components namely Horizon Workspace, Horizon View, Horizon Mirage.

Horizon Workspace incorporated two solutions which was once known as Horizon App Manager and also the Project Octopus which is now known as Horizon Data. With Horizon Workspace, you will be able to present your applications and thinapps all in one portal and provide an entitlement to different group of users which ease many enterprise the problem of providing the assignment in the olden days. Just with a single sign on, your users no longer have to sign in using multiple credentials. With Horizon Data, you will have a dropbox similar solution that is hosted in premise, which is much preferred by many customers who are not able to or find public cloud hosting a security issue. Other than just file sharing, you are able to preview it and also able to perform notes on it using it as a collaboration tool in a way.
With Horizon View, now you can access your Windows Desktop not just using the View Client on Windows, Linux and Mobile Device, you can also access it using a browser that support HTML5. Not just that, you will also get to experience a new features from the clients known as Utility Touch which help with mobile devices where it is always an hassle to click the small task bar or Start button. With Utility Touch, you will be able to access the Start Menu and also open applications via a left task bar. Take a look of a demo video below. Support for Microsoft Lynn 2013 with Video are now supported. Disk reclamation on vSphere 5.1 which was mentioned is now used on Horizon View 5.2.
Lastly is Horizon Mirage which complement what VDI are unable to solve today. It applies the concept of VDI into a physical desktop using a centralize image control and management. Not just having a centralize image, it allow recovery from disaster, deletion of files or even revert from a patching or Windows Migration e.g. XP to 7. This was previously known as VMware Mirage or also known as Wanova Mirage which was an acquisition by VMware in 2012. Have a look at the video of Horizon Mirage which illustrate very well its total functionality.
Just to note as well if you notice Thinapp was not mentioned in any of the components in the Suite. This is because Thinapp is now part of Horizon Suite. It is also bundle in Horizon View or Horizon Mirage. And Horizon Mirage comes with VMware Fusion Professional.
With all this, this not only create a total new end user experience it also provide a total ease of management and flexibility for the administrator.

In case you have downloaded and installed Horizon View 5.2, and find that why you are unable to use Unity Touch and HTML5, no fear, the features require a feature pack stated in the release notes which will be release 2 weeks from the GA date of Horizon View 5.2.

The Horizon View 5.2 Feature Pack is now available for download. You can access the binary from here using your myVMware account. The Feature Pack will enable HTML5 access using a browser to access a Desktop and also enables Utility Touch accessing from a mobile device e.g. phone or tablet. The installation and administration document can be found here.

With VMware Horizon View 5.2 and vSphere 5.1, we will be able to do disk reclaimation currently supported for linked clones OS disk.

Currently Horizon Mirage does not support Windows 8.
Horizon View 5.2 space reclamation works on Windows XP and 7 on Hardware version 9 and supporting Linked clones OS disks at this release.
Microsoft Lynn 2012 currently support video and recording functions instead of just text and messaging previously on Lynn 2010.
