 VMware just release a new start of certification targeted on operators, VMware Certified Techical Associate (VCTA). This is not a replacement of the previous VMware Certified Associate (VCA), but rather this is targeted someone with some knowledge of technical experience and running day 2 operations. As stated this is not a prerequisite for VMware Certified Professional (VCP) which is a higher level of certification. You can directly attempt to VCP.
