Recently have received few questions regarding vSphere Enterprise edition. As announced by VMware, vSphere Enterprise edition is no longer available for purchase from 30th Jun 2016. Details can be found from this KB . As this End of Availability (EOA) from vSphere 6.0, a customer who wants to upgrade to 6.5 or 6.7 or even vSphere.Next would ask how can I proceed. If you read from the KB: "Customers choosing not to upgrade their vSphere Enterprise or vSOM Enterprise licenses to Enterprise Plus and who remain active on SnS will continue to be entitled to future minor or major releases of these Enterprise editions if they are made available per the terms of their SnS agreement." As long you are on existing SnS, you are free to upgrade. Coming a new year VMware started to have some new changes to either pricing or bundling changes to existing Suites or Bundle. The most changes and the introduction of some new bundling last year where vRealize Suite was introduced with vSphere with Operations Management (vSOM) and upgrade with vRealize Operation LogInsight (vROI) add-on. I have encounter not once but several times by many including partners and customers who got confused with the vSphere Desktop licensing. Well what is vSphere Desktop?  What edition of the normal vSphere is is different or similar?  When do we used it and what can we used it for? With the announcement of Horizon 6 on 9th April 2014, and the release of the availability of download marks another milestone from VMware in the End User Computing (EUC).  You will find the landing page for Horizon 6 (with View).  At the same time, the VMWare Hands-on-Lab (HOL) have release a new lab on Horizon 6 too! Have met some customer who are tight on budget and is on Essentials or Essentials Plus. There are some confusion with the packaging of the vCenter editions and I would like to clarify some of this with some of the links around VMware sites for easy understanding. Essentials or Essentials Plus are bundled with vCenter Essentials while vSphere Standard, Enterprise and Enterprise Plus is often quote with vCenter Standard. So what does this mean?  With the different vCenter Edition, there are some hard limitations.  If you refer to my vRAM entitlement post here , I have mentioned that there is a hard 192GB vRAM entitlement and limit to 3 hosts to one vCenter for Essentials and Essentials Plus.   vCenter Essentials bundled ONLY in vSphere Essentials or vSphere Essentials Plus kit is limited to manage hosts up to 6 CPUs or 3 hosts whichever comes first.  This is due to the limitations from this vCenter edition.
