With the release of NSX 4.2 together with the General Availability of VMware Cloud Foundation 5.2, there are some important points to take note of. With NSX 4.2, overlay support for bare metal servers are no longer available. Moving forward, NSX will only support for virtual machine which is running on vSphere. The NSX Network introspection for Security will be deprecated in 4.x and will no longer be support after. NSX Manager APIs and NSX Advanced UIs will deprecated in this version. Just to name a few. But one major change in this release is an entitlement change in regards to NSX Native Load Balancer (NLB) or NSX Load Balancer. Entitlement Change for the NSX Load Balancer In a future major release of NSX, VMware intends to change the entitlement of the built-in NSX load balancer (a.k.a. NSX-T Load Balancer). How can I be alerted of new product releases or patches that are available for any VMware Products? This is actually part of your profile in my VMware portal . Log in to your my VMware portal . Under Profile Under Subscriptions You can check on the products of your interest to make aware of any patches and release update related information. When there is any, an email will be sent to you.

Something got a release note today known as vRealize Suite Lifecycle Manager 1.0.  What is this software about? VMware has a bundle known as vCloud Suite.  Just a breakdown what is in vCloud Suite/ vCloud Suite is a comprises of two things: vRealize Suite + vSphere Enterprise Plus. vRealize Suite (depending on Editions) will consist of some or all of the below: vRealize Automation vRealize Business vRealize Operations Manager vRealize Log Insight vSphere (depending on edition) will consist of some or all of the below: vCenter Standard (purchase separately) ESXi vSphere Replication vSphere Data Protection (last major edition) vSphere Big Data Extension Looking at the above, you start to see that installing and managing the upgrade will be a big tedious process.  Lots of planning and double and triple check the compatibility matrix. Every year multiple bloggers around the world get to be listed into the ranking of vBlog.  Without fail, this year the results has been release here . I like to take this chance to thank all followers and supporters.  I would not have made it thus far without feedback and suggestions to come out with new articles. In the chinese culture "8" is a lucky number and my blog got ranked 88.  This comes with double joy and indeed is so as I have also moved into my new place with my wife. With the release of vSphere 6.0 in Mar, the hardening guide is finally announced release today.  There is some different approach via vSphere API which is used in this release to help audit or implement using the guide. You can also bookmark this page for all the other version vSphere hardening guide.

For those who are not aware, the application for vExpert 2015 started in November 2014 and today it was announced .  A total of 1028 individuals this time!  That was a big increased from last year 754 at the start of 2014 and 581 from 2013. For those who are new to vExpert, you can follow the update that are entitled to you throughout the year and posted in this community page log into based on your email ID.  Many vendors each with their respective way to reward vExpert either via a NFR use their product or a free T-shirt. For those who have missed the application, this year however there were no news of quarterly application mentioned like last year. Nevertheless, keep up the good work and carry on the contribution you have been doing to be rewarded this accreditation year after year. Once again, congratulation to all individuals. Keep it going! With the recent Heartbleed security issue on software which utilized the OpenSSL version 1.0.1.  As of 20th April 2014, VMware has release all Security Advisory of all affected producted as listed here .  Products that are utilizing OpenSSL below 1.0.1 are not affected as listed. VMware has put in great effort to release all these security patches since the discovery announced on 14th April 2014 and release of the first patch on the day after. The advice is to at least apply all security advisory as recommended at soonest to avoid any security breach.
