Questions on vSphere Enterprise Edition

Recently, I get a lot of questions regarding vSphere Enterprise Edition and some confusion around it. The reason of these questions because VMware announced the end of availability (EOA) of vSphere Enterprise Edition on 9th Feb.  What this means that if you want to purchase vSphere Enterprise, this will no longer be available, you are left with only 3 options; vSphere Standard, vSphere Enterprise Plus or vSphere with Operations Management Enterprise Plus (vSOM) (excluding all those small kits e.g. vSphere Essentials, etc.). What will happen to vSphere Enterprise in terms of support? Support will still be valid until March 2020 as long support and maintenance is still valid. Can I upgrade/downgrade my existing vSphere Enterprise to a valid edition? You can only upgrade but not downgrade.  In this case, you can only move up to vSphere Enterprise Plus or vSphere with Operations Management Enterprise Plus (vSOM). Am currently on vSphere 6.0 Enterprise or below, can...

Is VMware vCloud Suite Bundle Becoming Irrelevant?

Software Defined Data Center (SDDC) is a term often used to illustrate the light of abilities to management and monitor your one or multiple data centers whether it is a private, managed or public cloud environment or mixed of anything.  With the ability to also having a centralize platform and ability to automate certain daily operation tasks to create an agile and efficient IT infrastructture.  Instead of having different silos creating the same overheads that once appear when everything was in a physical infrastructure where each applications could still be using a specific hardware set. In the past, VMware introduced the vCloud Suite to allows customer to build their own cloud.  However with the adoption of mutliple clouds, VMware came up with another bundle. VMware introduced the vRealize Suite (vR Suite) in both Advanced and Enterprise last year and this comprises of vRealize Operations Suite, Log Insight, vRealize Automation and vRealize Business all in one bun...

vSphere with Operations Management (vSOM) FAQs

Image
Happy New Year to everyone who have been following my blog.  It been a great year last year and the start of the year have already got me real busy. To start the year going, I decide to have my first post regarding vC Ops in vSOM which have been rising lots of questions. As more customers are looking at better managing their environment, the standalone vSphere license become less attractive as the only monitoring that is possible is from vCenter performance charts.  Using this could be an easy way out for a small 2-3 hosts environment however if you have more  hosts or over 100 of VMs, that would be a tedious task to be accomplish everyday.  Especially when an issue rise. As you know VMware has release a new package for vSphere which is known as vSphere with Operation Management.  This package added in vC Ops Standard edition as part of the processor license and allow customers to monitor unlimited number of VMs running on such licensing type in the clust...
